Prayer Request

I've developed a pretty nasty rash around my central line (Hickman). I mentioned it as a prayer request before -- this is about ten times worse and I'm really worried about infection. I had the doctor check it this morning while at the hospital for chemo and he said it looks o.k. so far, but if I start running a fever or if it looks infected I'll need to start an antibiotic. Worst case scenario, since my counts will be falling from chemo, I could end up in the hospital on IV meds and need to have the line removed.

I do not have a latex allergy, it's just skin that has been covered up for seven months that has had enough. I've tried every type of bandage that they make. Hypafix seems to be the best option right now because the tagaderm is condensating on the inside due to humidity and a wet dressing encourages a fungal infection, so I can't go there. It's extremely uncomfortable and somewhat swollen -- I'd really appreciate prayer that it will clear up quickly.

Also, to update, today was day two of chemo. I started out the week with blasts at 2%, which is the lowest they've been pre-chemo, I believe. I think this round is hitting me harder than the previous one, but time will tell.

Thanks for your prayers.

Amy

Of course I will be praying, Amy. In a way it is good to have something specific to pray over too. You are always in my prayers, and those of my house group, all the way over the sea in England.

Hi. I'm delurking. I can't even remember ow I got here a few months ago. A prayer request, I think. I have been praying for you. I was wondering, do you have Fixamul in America? It's breathable, and they use it on minor burns patients and the like here, so it's pretty good on the skin. It's also really strong, and you can only really get it off by soaking it, or rubbing some oil on it. Just a thought, but you know, an American probably invented it, and you have been using it. *grin* If so, never mind me. :) All my prayers and Gods grace for you dear.

Hi Amy,
We have been praying for you every day. My boys and hiusband just asked today how you were doing, so I will tell them. We will pray about the rash problem. I know the patches can be awful! I still have discolred skin from them 8 months later! It was great news to hear that the blasts are only at 2%! Praise the Lord!~
Love you,
Gina

Praying for the rash to go away, and praying that if you are feeling chemo's effects, it is because - and only because it is WORKING! God bless!

I will pray diligently for your skin. I always wonder when someone will invent some amazing dressing that doesn't have to be changed all the time, is comfortable, and lets your skin breath but not let infection in. Every time we change Alivia's I want to suggest that the doc wear a dressing for months at a time and remove it weekly and rub alcohol on it. Maybe then they would have a bigger desire to invent the perfect bandage. Oh I also think they should have to practice all procedures on each other. I think you would learn how to get a vein the first time or do a perfect biopsy if you had to do it to a friend. Just random thoughts..can you tell we've been in the hospital too long. Praying we are in the hospital so you don't have to be!!

Hey kid, sorry I wasn't much up for talking last night. Its awesome to hear that your blast counts are/were at 2%. Probably some of the best news I've heard about your condition for a while. Here's something to remember though, after all you've been through, and all you've had to deal with... The skin rash is a pain, but I'm pretty sure you've handled worse with aplomb. I'm pretty sure (even though I don't have to deal with it at all) that you'll be able to do the same here.

Father, we ask for peace and comfort for Amy. We pray for healing, and for no infection to begin to set in. I ask You to bless Amy in a very special way today, and to speak to her in such a magnificent way that she has to share it with others. Give wisdom to her caregivers, and give her family an extra portion of tenderness and compassion toward her. Hold her close to Your heart, Father, and let her hear it beat with love for her.
In Jesus' name, amen.
